Course Description
Participants examine challenging behaviours through developmental, attachment, trauma-informed, and relational perspectives. Play-based strategies for responding to behavioural concerns are explored.

  2. Differentiate between behavioural symptoms and underlying needs.
  3. Apply therapeutic limit-setting strategies.
  4. Utilize play interventions to address emotional and behavioural challenges.

Supporting Emotional Regulation Through Play
Course Description
This module focuses on emotional regulation, co-regulation, nervous system awareness, and resilience-building through play-based interventions.
Learning Outcomes
  1. Explain the relationship between play and emotional regulation.
  2. Identify indicators of dysregulation.
  3. Facilitate co-regulation through therapeutic play experiences.
  4. Utilize sensory-informed interventions to support regulation.
  5. Develop play-based activities that enhance coping skills.

Therapeutic Play Modalities
Course Description
Participants are introduced to a variety of play-based approaches including expressive arts, storytelling, sandtray, puppet play, games, bibliotherapy, and sensory interventions.

  1. Describe a variety of therapeutic play modalities.
  2. Match interventions to developmental and clinical needs.
  3. Explain indications and limitations of different modalities.
  4. Demonstrate basic skills in selected play-based interventions.
  5. Integrate multiple therapeutic play approaches into practice.

Course Description
Participants learn how toys and play materials facilitate communication, symbolic expression, and emotional processing. The therapeutic meaning of play themes and toy selection are explored.

  3. Select developmentally appropriate play materials.

Participants develop foundational therapeutic responses that strengthen connection, emotional safety, and attunement within play interactions.
